Game Jam - Find the game as Bouzu-chan

I went to a the global game jam and had a great time.It was pretty wild making a game in 48 hours between 3 American and 4 Japanese people. Our main programmer was American and spoke very little Japanese, and our Japanese teammates spoke little to no English. We had to explain everything in both English and Japanese. I gotta say I'm pretty impressed with the result. I was responsible for much of the 2D artwork, including animations and tilesets.
Good job everybody,
The game plays with WASD movement and a mouse. You play as Bouzu-Chan, the midnight rebel, in a Crayon Shin-chan inspired house and characters. Have fun trying to get your Gameboy late at night when you should be sleeping.

Booba

I did some work for a clip recently. For those of you who aren't French, Booba is a rapper that has some popularity in France. I prefer other kinds of music, but I had fun working on it. Malec, the director of the clip, corrected and made all the final drawings. The rough animations you see below are what he received before he infused his style into it. Malec did an incredible job and he was fun to work with.

Epilepsy warning,
be sure to keep a  certain distance from the screen with lights on if you are susceptible.

Kirin Lemon

I did a small animation for this clip/ad for  Kirin Lemon (what is essentially Japanese Sprite/Limonade)  It's the shot at 0:54-1:03. I hope people outside of Japan can see it, else I'll have to figure something out.

I worked on another clip recently, some of you might know what it is. I'll make a post about it later this week probably.

Helping out a Friend

I've been helping out a friend who has been working on improving his fundamentals in drawing. Recently he has made a lot of progress, and I'm happy that he has kept motivated. I thought I'd make a post about helping a friend.

Here is a drawing by Yohan Grimm.

Yohan asked me for advice about how he could improve it, so I sent him this

I was worried that when I sent this he might feel bad that I had to change his pose so much to correct it. Fortunately I was wrong, and it motivated him to keep trying.

Ever so often he would send me something, and if  I had time and I was in the mood I would send him something like this. I'd draw over his work and try to see if I could make simple explantations for Yohan.

Most recently I corrected these drawings for Yohan.

I try to make the drawings in the spirit of what Yohan wanted to draw. When I see the drawing he sent me at first, compared to where he is now, I see a real improvement. There is a lot more to learn, for me and him. I learn a lot by helping him out.

I have other friends that I try to help out when I can. Sometimes I fall short, other times I spoil a relationship that could have been salvaged. I wish I was better at keeping, maintaining, and healing relationships. As time goes on, I learn about how limited I am with my time, resources, patience and endurance. Knowing that, I hope I leave friends better off than when we first meet.

Keep at it Yohan, keep at it my friends.

And to all the people who's lives I've soured, I'm only human. Maybe next time we meet we can work to make it better.

Cheers,

Rémy

Swimmer Studies

I enjoy seeing what surprises come from studies. I was looking for cues to nail the amazonian physique of professional swimmers.
